 Allen
and Unwin's designer, Nada Backovic,
was happy with her viewing of my portfolio online and then called me
in for a meeting to look at my work first hand... the rest, as they
say, is history.
The
book is the result of a collaboration between leading nutritionist Rosemary
Stanton and Gary Egger of the Gutbuster
Foundation. The recipes in the book are designed to deliver real
flavour while providing a healthy diet and reduction of daily fat intake,
as well as being simple to prepare.
My aim was for the photography to have a strong "masculine look"
as well as appearing appetising and achievable to cook. Stylist Jane
Hann's choice of bold fabrics and props and wonderful touch with
the food completed the picture. [ more

 JAPANESE
Japanese... great food! But how do you cook it?
Shooting 150 step by step shots for this book shots went some way to
demystifying the process for me.
Brigid Treloar's authoritative text for
what is now ACP
Books was a challenge to shoot. Apart from the concern for accuracy
of representation of the food each double page spread was shot with
an in camera mask indicating the position of recipe title and type.
The trick was to produce a series of "yummy pics" with a place
for the type to reverse out of or overlay.
Stylist and chef Myles Beaufort brought
his insights from living in Japan for two years to the shoot and was
tireless in his search for props that would add character and interest
to the shots. [ more pics » ]
 PACKAGING
MAESTRO
Designer and good friend Dart Brader of Brader
Design is never short on a good concept as seen here in his design
of the new Rotacota paint brush packaging.
Our model for the shot was an off duty and cleancut cop. His beat turned
out to be the railway tracks of Sydney's southern suburbs where his
job was to deal with train smash victims. At times it was almost "too
much information" but certainly kept us well entertained through
the shoot. [ enlarge

SIROCCO
Just one double page spread from the third annual catalogue I have done
for Sirocco Homewares. The shoot, involving
talent and lots of furniture, was shot on location on Sydney's northern
beaches. See my LIFESTYLE page
for more examples of Sirocco catalogue photography. [ enlarge

 MOTHER
OF PEARL & SONS
A new ad, one of a series I've shot for Mother of
Pearl that have run full page in Highlife
magazine. It is always a pleasure to work with Carl
Screiber, the dynamic owner of Mother of
Pearl. His ideas and enthusiasm at the shoot are always 100%.
See my PACKAGING page for more
of a large body of work I've shot for MOPS. [ enlarge
